- Expressionism
- One of the basic forms of representation wherein color and design are used to express mood or other non-tangible elements of
the subject. It takes elements of realism (accurate representation) and impressionism (mood or impressions often emphasizing light
and contrast) and fuses them together with an emphasis on intangibles. Expressionist paintings often generate strong emotional reactions
in ways that other styles do not.
- Practitioners of expressionism include van Gogh, Chagall and Munch.
